In NYC, community members get to decide how to spend public money through participatory budgeting (PB). On this walk, we will learn more about PB, visit projects that our community chose to invest in, & speak with City Councilmember Brad Lander, who helped bring PB to NY. The walk will be led by neighborhood District Committee members Caron Atlas and Christa Paterline. Get inspired by this innovative form of grassroots democracy & learn how to get involved!

The walking tour will include:

  • The Park Slope Library Story Garden
  • The Center for Anti-Violence Education's Upstander Trainings
  • The Old Stone House, where we will discuss what PB is and meet with members of the Youth Committee
  • An experience of idea collection at Kas Cafe
  • See Groundswell murals and learn about a PB project including Groundswell, Reelworks, and Roof Top Films
  • Stop by CHIPS and learn about a PB project to provide outdoor showers
  • End at Park Slope School, PS 282 and learn about their PB projects and about a PB project supporting immigrants through Imani House.
