Cultural Organizing Workshop at ROOTS Fest
Artists who are dedicated to social justice often find themselves organizing their communities, their audiences, or even other artists. But what does it mean to be an 'organizer'? The workshop engaged discussion of the intersections of community organizing and cultural organizing and facilitated a knowledge exchange about how we can organize from specific traditions, cultural identities, communities of place or worldviews.
ROOTS Fest 2011: Many Communities, One Voice was a music, arts and community festival and much more. It sought to heal, empower and unite Baltimore through the celebration of arts and culture. ROOTS Fest kicked off with Arts, Culture & Creativity: A National Learning Exchange, a three-day national dialog on art, culture, community organizing and empowerment.
